Overview

In December 2018, Anyhow designed a Christmas tree for the Ace Hotel London Shoreditch. In keeping with the hotel’s non-traditional Christmas tree choices, we approached it from a fresh modern angle, under the theme of “Bonsai / Christmas Everywhere”.

The overall concept was to blend the Western and Oriental cultural values and aesthetics in harmony, using traditional Japanese horticulture. Our execution was a Christmas tree in the form of a handcrafted cabinet that featured Japanese elements, namely moss and bonsai trees.

Finished with LED lights and mirrors, the interior of the cabinet had two diorama worlds of Christmas from Northern and Southern hemispheres completed with miniature human and animal figures enjoying the holiday season around the bonsai trees. We made peepholes on the cabinet so that everyone from small children to adults can have an interactive experience.
